The Delaware County R/C Club offers fixed-winged flight instruction at no charge to its members.

Sorry, we do not offer helicopter flight instruction at this time.

Our volunteer flight instructors are available to assist you with every aspect of learning to fly radio controlled model airplanes. Our instructors can also advise you on selecting a trainer aircraft best suited as a R/C trainer.

We have “buddy box” training systems for Futaba and JR radio systems.

Flight instruction is usually conducted on the weekends, weather permitting. Other times may be scheduled if a flight instructor is available.

All members must have Full Open Membership in the Academy of Model Aeronautics (A.M.A).

To inquire about R/C fixed wing flight instruction, feel free to contact us or visit us at our next General Membership meeting. If attending our meetings, be sure to bring your plane and field support gear. Be sure all batteries are fully charged at least 14 hours before coming out.

Weather conditions for R/C flight instruction must comply with a wind of no more that 10 MPH, temperatures of 40F or above and no rain.

Choosing the perfect trainer aircraft
Welcome to the hobby of R/C model aviation! As a newcomer, it is easy to be overwhelmed and misguided on how to start. You’ve made a wise decision on seeking assistance.

Those that seek assistance in choosing the perfect first trainer and flight instruction have a better chance of success than those who try to train themselves.

As a student, you want a trainer aircraft that is stable and easy to control. Also, a trainer should be able to withstand the typical hard landings and “bumps” that is common while a student is learning. The trainer aircraft should be easily repairable, and or parts should be readily available.

We can confidently recommend the E-flite Apprentice STS 1.5M with SAFE DXe Transmitter to any student as we have trained students with this aircraft.

Lastly, you will want to join the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). The AMA is the official national body for model aviation in the United States and provides modelers with the necessary insurance against property or personal injury liability. Membership also includes a great monthly magazine. Full AMA membership is required to fly and all local R/C flying fields, including the Delaware County R/C Club.
